|Snoshoe||Well sad to say the track had to go. need the space for hay. I was finaly getting some good air. If you call crushing the belly pan into the dirt and bottoming out good air. I picked up some kenda bear claws in 23x11. nice and thick walls but there is a lot of it, no mud yet but they hook up great in dirt and grass|

Did more work on my kids' dirt track with a couple of snowmobile size jumps and some whoops. My son is already clearing a 12' double, whoot. Cant wait to see what he does on a full up sport quad.
Boy do I love my 9N with a bucket, made the whole job take an hr or so.

|Jah_82||Just wanted to emphasize what v3rGUN said about keeping on the throttle until the rear tires leave the ground off the kicker. If not it causes you to want to nose dive. Like he said, at first it can be scary and you may be hesitant but with practice you will get it down, and work the speed up gradually and learn how your or his specific bike reacts to launched and landings.|

I missed the first few pages somehow. Snoshoe, make sure you are standing when ever you jump. Be on the balls of your feet, but still be able to hit the back brake if needed. I saw the pic of your son, and it looks like he is seated the whole time. Best thing to do is gradually hit the jump fast and faster. Until you get a feel for it. Also, you can preload it, which is kind of like bunny hopping a bicycle, right before you get ready to take off from the jump, try bunny hopping so as your in the middle of coming up (your body) the quad is taking off from the jump. It takes practice, but you can get more height and distance with the same speed. Careful though, as most people that try this "whip" the bike because they push harder with one leg than they do the other. Brakes do factor a lot in jumping. Mostly your back brakes, because the momentun (energy) from your rear wheels is far greater than the front wheels. Which is why when you see someone do a back flip, they keep the throttle pinned.
When landing, try landing all four wheels at the same time, or at least the rears a spilt millisecond before the front. This will give you the most plush landing, as then all 4 shocks are absorbing at the same time instead of just 2. You can also throw your body weight around a little bit. I am a big boy like you right now (225) and it definately can be done.

Awesome. Get his something with suspension ASAP.
I was lucky and found a used 12 Raptor 125 for Christmas and my son is loving it more than his Honda 90, even though the Raptor is slower than his 90 due to the motor work we did to it.
Here is my 10 year old son on his Raptor and my 6 year old daughter on her stock Honda 90 on the little 1' jump we put in the yard last week. It's hard to tell from the angle, but he's going about 12-15' in 2nd gear on this jump. As you can hear, the key is accelerating through the jump.

Well hi de ho,
Finially made it home, took the xx over my son's jump, followed the advice and was landing well and 10-15ft away. no worries.
now we are moving the track. what is a good beginer ttop length and height? we tried a 45deg face on our 1 foot high jump, not pretty, lots of height, no distance changed it to a 30 deg much better. my son's kfx90 is still sad, he gets great specs but the landings are rough and hard, he tried mine but is alittle imtimitaded.
Also found that sliding around corners can cause aftermarket knobies (tire plugs) to start leaking especialy the ones in the upper sidewall lol. I can't wait to get the rest of the dirt for the whoops and other jumps. i'll send picks later

Entry -ground before the face, where you line up and set up body position
Face - the ramp or front slope of the jump, the suspension begins to compress, legs slightly bent, leaning a little forward, finial adjustments
Kicker - the lip/ end of face begining of table top or top of the jump, as I understand it the begining of flight, suspension uncompresses and hopfully you have speed and position correct
Table top - the large flat top between the kicker and the landing, used for training and just incase situations
Landing - the down hill slope for landing duh, suspension is recompressed and rebounded, set up for next event
Exit - ground after the landing
acceleration = pitch up
brakes front or back = pitch down
allow the machine to move forward until you are centered, legs slightly bent ready for landing
video games are not instructional - people just don't get up from a wreck like that!
